Halloween is quickly approaching

Ahh Halloween.  I love Halloween, dressing up, getting together with friends.  Good food, good friends, good times!!  This year I'm having a Haunted Housewarming in my brand new house. (Yay!)  I'm not really decorating the house for Halloween, but I'm hoping people come dressed in costumes.  I have lots of good friends coming so it should be a super time.  More details to follow!

Goals 2009

I mentioned goals.  So here they are:

1. Write more.
2. Start a blog about kids books (writing more).
3. Update my blogs (writing more).
4. Loose 40 MORE pounds (That's right I've lost 40, going for the next 40)
5. Go to the gym more. (Loose weight)
6. Shed my excess junk.
7. Get laid (just kidding. . .mostly)

Okay so far, I can cross off #2 and have made an okay start on all the others, except for #7,  I think there's little hope of that.  So far so good, yay me.

LA and back

Had a fabulous time this weekend. My friend Leona and I got up before the crack of dawn and headed to LA to go to the beach. We left about 5:30ish and arrived in LA by 9:30. Lea's a wicked driver =) We did a drive by the Queen Mary, just to say we did. Drove through some interestingly unsafe neighborhoods looking for Highway 1 - which by the way is not labled - and drove south. Our origional plan was to go back to Crystal Cove beach. We'd stumbled upon it during a previous trip. However on further discussion, we decided:
a) it wasn't really a swimming beach
b) it was too far south
c) we saw a sign that said, turn here for beach access. So we did!

We found parking after much verbal grumbling from Lea (she was ready to swim in her ocean - she apparently owns the entire Pacific, who knew I was hanging with the rich and famous!) Lugged all our crap out to a fairly deserted beach. We got front row, with high tide. The water was a little cold going in, but after that first suck of air between your teeth. It was perfect. The waves were high enough to body surf on and there weren't many unidentifiable slithery things underneath. Though Lea got a kick out of every time I squeaked and jumped. Out of the water it was 85 degrees and a great breeze off the ocean. Nice and relaxing. The only real excitement happened when I got out of the water and the seagulls had invaded our blanket. Say goodbye to a bag of pretzels. Damn birds. We left around 4 pm. We stopped in Barstow for dinner at IN-N-OUT, and were home by 9:30 pm.

It was a long day but it was fun. We may have to do this more often!

Storytime Book Nook

Hi-

I've started an additional blog specifically for Children's books, storytimes, and library services. I call it the Storytime Book Nook. I know, I can hear the questions now : Another blog? Why? You never update this one! What makes you think you can handle two blogs? Well dang it, I made a new year's resolution. New Year's resolution??you say, Ain't cha' brining it on a little LATE?! Not the January one, the August one, you know a new year for Rachel, her birthday was a week ago. I made a list of goals (yes I'll post them but later). One of them being, Rachel needs to write more, the other one being, Rachel would like to have a place to organize her thoughts about children's books and programming. So I decided on blogging about it. Why not use this one? Well, basically cause I wanted it to be professional and kid friendly. I want people I don't know to use it. Therefore, they probably don't need to see me in all my true freakishness. Plus I like to talk about porn and that's not kid friendly. (It may come to it for another blog, BUT first I gotta get the habit.) So I hope you check it out. Thanks.
